Greek Neo-Nazi Party's U.S. Website Is Down, And Anonymous Takes Credit

"Bye bye Golden Dawn." (Updated)

The website for the New York chapter of Greece's far-right Golden Dawn party is down, and the hacker group Anonymous is taking credit.

Trying to log onto xanyc.org only redirects to the web hosting company. A cached version of the site is still available. Twitter user Dim Nikolopoulos, based in Athens, directed BuzzFeed to this left-leaning Greek website which also blames Anonymous.

Anonymous is taking credit for removing Golden Dawn's website, as it does for many other online pranks and acts of vandalism:

GOLDEN DAWN NOT ONLY IS YOUR PHONE LINES TANGO DOWN, BUT UR WEBHOST R BELONG TO US: http://t.co/GxBMUUuW

Why DDoS when things can just go *poof*? Bye bye Golden Dawn.

Update: Ioannis Grammatikos, who identified himself as the webmaster for the site, told BuzzFeed in a text message that "Our host server shut us down because of low level people reporting us. We are moving to a better webhost, and we will soon be up and running."

Grammatikos confirmed that Golden Dawn's New York office was in Astoria, Queens but said "we cannot provide you with more information."
