New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said at a press conference today that he'd never talked to the president about gay marriage, and wouldn't say whether he wants Obama to openly support it.
"You'd have to ask the president what he thinks," Bloomberg said in response to a question from BuzzFeed. "I don't think there's any question about what I think is right."
"I don't think it's the government's business to tell people who they can marry and can't marry," Bloomberg said. "The only member of my administration who's in the Obama administration has come out and say he is in favor of letting people love who they want to love and live with whom they want to live with, and marry whoever they want to marry. " The mayor was referring to Shaun Donovan, current Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
Pressed by Politico's Maggie Haberman, Bloomberg said "I've never had the conversation with [Obama] about gay marriage, I really don't know. You'll have to ask him."
