Ann B. Davis, Alice On "The Brady Bunch," Dies At 88

Ann B. Davis, the Emmy Award-winning actress known for her role as the beloved housekeeper Alice on The Brady Bunch, died Sunday after a fall at her Texas home. She was 88.

Davis's longtime friend, retired Bishop William Frey, told CNN she fell and hit her head in the bathroom Saturday, leaving her comatose. Davis later died at University Hospital in San Antonio.

Bexar County, Texas, medical examiner's investigator Sara Horne told the Associated Press an autopsy is planned for Monday.

Davis achieved stardom for her role as a secretary in the 1950s sitcom The Bob Cummings Show, where she won two Emmys for supporting actress. She later joined the cast of The Brady Bunch, playing Alice the housekeeper.

Davis' co-stars from The Brady Bunch paid tribute to the late actress Sunday.

"I'm so shocked & saddened to learn my dear friend & colleague Ann B Davis died today. I spoke with her a few months ago & she was doing great," Florence Henderson, the actress who played mom Carol Brady on the show, said in a tweet.

Maureen McCormick, who played eldest sister Marcia Brady, said: "She was one of my earliest role models, and that continues to this day. She made me a better person. How blessed I am to have had her in my life. She will be forever missed."

Eve Plumb, who played middle sister Jan Brady, said in a statement: "Ann was an amazing lady. She was great to work with, and I have wonderful memories of our scenes together on The Brady Bunch. She was kind and generous to all of us on set. Although we hadn't seen each other as often as we may have wanted to in the last few years, I am sure she knew she held a very important place in my heart. My thoughts are with her family and friends."

Davis was born in Schenectady, N.Y., in 1926, and grew up in Erie, Pa.
