Someone Left A $100,000 Watch At Newark Airport And The TSA Returned It

The Cartier piece is covered in diamonds. Also, the Transportation Security Administration really wants you to follow them on Twitter.

A Japanese real estate developer accidentally left his Cartier watch at a security checkpoint in Newark Liberty International Airport on Tuesday, only to have it returned by the Transportation Security Administration.

A traveler lost this $100K gold diamond watch @ a Newark Airport checkpoint. #TSA's Lost & Found arranged its return.

The watch, which is valued at more than $100,000, is made of solid gold, the TSA said in a statement. "The face of the watch was covered in more than 100 small diamonds. The watch's trim and band also were covered in hundreds of small diamonds," the TSA added.

According to the agency, the owner is a Japanese man who "oversees multiple hotels and resorts in his country and other countries." The real-estate mogul "accidentally left the watch behind at the checkpoint on his way home," the agency said.

In the official statement, a TSA public relations officer told the media they should follow her on Twitter. (She had more than about 1,400 followers as of Thursday afternoon.)

In an admitted self-serving side note, I’d like to point out that if you had been following me on Twitter, you would have known about this much earlier. So please consider following me here: @TSAmedia_LisaF.
Now, back to the news release.

The TSA placed the watch in a locked lost and found bin. A representative for the owner came to pick it up Thursday:

Gold diamond watch lost at a checkoint in Newark Airport was picked up at #TSA's Lost & Found office this afternoon.

Man who picked up the watch found by #TSA said he was planning to fly to Japan tonight to personally deliver it to the owner of the watch.
