A Group Of Syrians Shared This Heartbreaking Salute To Robin Williams

"To be free. Such a thing would be greater than all the magic and all the treasures in the world."

For over three years the people of Kafranbel, Syria have been sharing catchy posters in English to express their opposition to President Bashar al-Assad and to attract international attention to the Syrian conflict.

On Friday, they shared this quote from Aladdin in tribute to the late Robin Williams and their fight for freedom. "To be free. Such a thing would be greater than all the magic and all the treasures in the world."

Since 2011, more than 170,000 Syrians have died and more than 9 million have been displaced, both inside and outside the country. The Syrian conflict began as a non-violent uprising against Assad, but has since descended into a bloody regional battle between pro-government forces, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and other rebel factions representing a spectrum of interests — leaving civilians like the banner-makers of Kafranbel caught in the chaos.
