One Dead, One In Custody After Shooting At Purdue University

UPDATE: Purdue Police have released the names of the suspect and victim in today's shooting. A suspect is in custody after a fatal shooting outside the Purdue University engineering building. The victim appears to have been targeted.

UPDATE: Purdue Police have released the names of the suspect and victim in today's shooting.

Police informed the media that the victim in today's shooting was 21-year-old Andrew Boldt, a Purdue senior and teaching assistant.

The suspect in custody is Cody Cousins, 23.

Police released the mugshot of suspect 23-year-old Cody Cousins late Tuesday.

Just after 12 p.m. local time, an alert went out for Purdue University in Indiana that an incident occurred in the campus's electrical engineering building and a lockdown was being put into effect.

Police and school officials confirmed that one man died in the shooting and one man was taken into custody. No other injuries were reported and police believe the victim was targeted.

The shooting occurred at the electrical engineering building on Purdue's West Lafayette, Ind., campus.

The lockdown set off a flurry of activity on social media by students on campus.

After securing the scene, Purdue opened all campus buildings except the engineering building where the shooting occurred. The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE: Purdue is canceling classes for the rest of today and tomorrow, the school says.

Purdue is cancelling remaining classes today and all classes tomorrow in light of today's tragic shooting.

Provost Sands announced classes 1/21 and 1/22 are canceled "out of respect for the Purdue community and in light of today’s tragic event."
