Kentucky Firefighter Dies After Ice Bucket Challenge Accident

A firefighter has died one month after being electrocuted during an ice bucket challenge stunt.

A Campbellsville, Kentucky, firefighter has died one month after participating in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

Capt. Tony Grider, 41, died Saturday from burn-related injuries, dispatcher Mark Coker told CNN. Grider and three other Campbellsville firefighters were shocked by a power line as they sprayed water on a group of college students.

The Campbellsville Fire Department posted on Facebook that Grider passed away and said that another firefighter injured during the incident, Alex Quinn, was still battling serious injuries.

On Aug. 21, the firefighters were injured while helping Campbellsville University’s school band do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. After firefighters splashed the school band with ice water, the fire truck’s aerial bucket made contact with power lines.

Grider and Quinn were transported to the hospital with severe injuries. Two other firefighters — Capt. Steve Marrs, 37, and Alex Johnson, 28 — were also injured during the accident and later released. An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
