Fake Press Release: Gordon Gekko Endorses Romney

The Bain issue follows Romney to South Carolina.

COLUMBIA, South Carolina -- When Mitt Romney arrived at his first rally here following his New Hampshire victory, he was greeted by liberal activists handing out press releases announcing that fictional Wall Street financier Gordon Gekko had endorsed the Republican frontrunner.

The satirical release describes Gekko, a character in the 1987 film Wall Street, as "a vicious Wall Street operative" and points out that he coined the infamous phrase, "greed is good."

The release, written by left-wing activist group South Carolina Forward Progress, goes on: "Mitt Romney shares my belief that prosperity starts at the top... At Bain Capital, Romney made the hard choices an executive has to make. Sure, thousands of people lost their jobs, but as much smaller group made billions of dollars, and isn't that what it's really all bout."

One of the activists (pictured above) was actually dressed as Gekko himself, with slicked back hair and a fat cigar hanging out of his mouth.

When this reporter approached him for an interview, he asked, "Are you from the Wall Street Journal?"

"No."

"Then I got nothing to say to you," he responded. "You can try to schedule something with my assistant."
