“Walking Dead” Fanatic Allegedly Killed Friend Because He Thought He Was Turning Into A Zombie

A Walking Dead fan in New Mexico was arrested Thursday after allegedly beating a friend to death because he thought he had begun to “change into a zombie.”

A 23-year-old New Mexico man who had been binge-watching The Walking Dead allegedly beat a friend to death with a microwave and guitar because he thought the friend had started to "change into a zombie," police said.

Damon Perry was arrested Thursday for allegedly beating 23-year-old Christopher Paquin to death, the Associated Press reported.

Perry attributed his actions to heavy drinking and watching the popular AMC television show The Walking Dead, which focuses on a zombie apocalypse.

Police in Grants, New Mexico, responded to 911 calls from residents at an apartment complex who reported that Perry was running around threatening people with a knife.

When cops arrived on the scene, two maintenance workers were restraining Perry, local TV station KOB reported.

An officer later found Paquin in a nearby apartment, who was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Grants Police Department did not immediately respond to a BuzzFeed News request for comment.

At the police station, Perry told detectives that while the two were drinking his friend started "to change into a zombie" and tried to bite him.

Perry then allegedly punched and kicked Paquin, and hit him with an electric guitar, a microwave, and other household objects.

Perry has been charged with an open count of murder and is being held at the Cibola County Detention Center on $800,000 cash-only bond, Reuters reported.
