Twitter Gets A New Home Page For People Who Don't Use Twitter

Starting today, the company will try to give everyone a reason to go to Twitter.com. Even if you don't have an account.

Until a few minutes ago, this is what you saw when you came to Twitter.com if you weren't signed in.

If you didn't have an account, Twitter's longtime home page was basically a wasteland that did little more than prompt you to sign up.

But here's what you'll see starting now.

Yes, there's still an option to sign in, but the main thing it's trying to show you is the avenue to find subject-specific tweets with stuff you may care about. Like tech bloggers. Everyone loves tech bloggers. Right?

Twitter has been pushing the concept that its audience is much larger than its user base. This is yet another way for it to let people who aren't on Twitter to see what's happening there — and of course it's hoping they'll be more likely to join that way too. It also addresses a long-standing complaint from critics that the homepage has been a missed opportunity.

To start with, the new page will only show up for people in the U.S., but the idea is to take it global.
