Two LAPD Officers Shot, Manhunt Underway For Suspects

The officers said they believe they were the intended target.

A manhunt is underway after two Los Angeles police officers, wearing plainclothes, were shot and injured Sunday afternoon.

The officers fired back after being shot at and several suspects dispersed from the area. Officers detained some people and are still looking for two more suspects.

"At this time, the officers believe they were the target of the gunfire," Detective Meghan Aguilar told the Los Angeles Times. "There's going to be several thorough interviews of the officers. But right now they believe they were the target."

The two officers suffered minor wounds and were treated at the scene. The car they were driving was an unmarked vehicle.

The shooting occurred near the intersection where police shot and killed Ezell Ford Jr., an unarmed black man diagnosed with schizophrenia last year.

Aguilar added that the investigation is still in the preliminary stage.
