Last year, BuzzFeed News launched the Outside Your Bubble feature to give our audience a look at how people outside of their own social media spaces are talking about news stories. Our goal was to inform readers about the larger conversation happening around a story and add a sense of transparency that has been lost in the rise of social-media-driven filter bubbles. Since then, hundreds of viewpoints have been added to dozens of our most-read stories.
This year, we're inviting you to share the stories that shape your world. The Outside Your Bubble Facebook group is a place to post stories, videos, or events that you feel may have broadened your perspective. We just ask that you contribute in good faith, keep an open mind, and be courteous to one another.
Despite how the internet can make it look sometimes, we believe people are still reading, thinking, and learning from one another. Our goal is to allow you to share powerful examples of work that can spark conversation.
If 2017 was the year the internet shredded our shared reality, let 2018 be the year we start piecing it back together.
