John Oliver Blasts Dr. Oz's Support Of "Miracle Pills"

"Are you a doctor or an old west traveling salesman?"

Last week, Mehmet Oz appeared before the Senate's consumer protection panel and was scolded by Claire McCaskill for marketing products to his viewers that don’t have the “scientific muster” to be presented as fact. On Sunday, it was John Oliver's turn.

On his HBO show "Last Week Tonight," Oliver took aim at television host Mehmet Oz, the supplement industry, and lax federal regulations on dietary supplements.

Oz has been under fire for claims on "The Dr. Oz Show" that some diet products are “miracles” for weight loss. Last week, Senator Claire McCaskill took Oz to task for a 2012 show in which he proclaimed that green coffee bean extract was a "magic weight loss cure for every body type."

"I get that you do a lot of good on your show," McCaskill told Oz during a Senate hearing, but "I don't get why you need to say this stuff because you know it's not true."

Oliver suggested that if Oz wanted to avoid confusion he should call his show, "Check This Shit Out With Some Guy Named Mehmet."
