ICYMI: Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson are expecting another baby together.
The exes, who already share a 4-year-old daughter named True, are due to welcome their second child via surrogate any day now, with Khloé’s representative confirming to multipleoutlets on Wednesday that the baby was conceived in November.
“We can confirm True will have a sibling who was conceived in November,” Khloé’s spokesperson said.
“Khloé is incredibly grateful to the extraordinary surrogate for such a beautiful blessing,” they went on, adding that the reality star would like “kindness and privacy” from the public at this time.
“We'd like to ask for kindness and privacy so that Khloé can focus on her family,” the rep said.
Well, given that Khloé and Tristan are currently not together following his shocking paternity scandal that unfolded in January, tons of internet users are super confused by the latest news that they’re welcoming another child together.
Just in case you needed a refresher, Tristan admitted to fathering a child with personal trainer Maralee Nichols while he was still in a relationship with Khloé. Maralee gave birth to their little boy, Theo, early in December, and has since said that the NBA player hasn’t met his son or provided any financial assistance.
Khloé learned of this news “with the rest of the world” when Tristan's legal declaration was leaked, roughly a month before he announced his DNA test results on a public Instagram story.
“Everything is an act of betrayal, everything is a lie, everything is manipulation. It’s deceit,” said Khloé, who has repeatedly taken Tristan back over the years that their on-again, off-again relationship had been dogged by his infidelity.
What’s more, Tristan wound up conceding that he’d had a monthslong sexual affair with Maralee too, communicating exclusively via his secret Snapchat account to discuss when and where to have sex.
But a source has now revealed to People that Khloé and Tristan’s baby was conceived before the reality star had any knowledge of his infidelity with Maralee.
“The baby was conceived via surrogate before it was revealed to Khloé and the public that Tristan was having a baby with someone else in December,” the source said, before adding that the two “are not back together and have not spoken since December outside of co-parenting matters.”
And another insider recently told E! News that Khloé kept the announcement under wraps “to protect surrogate privacy and safety” and “to protect her mental health from judgment from the public as a result of Tristan’s actions.”
It goes without saying that the news of Khloé and Tristan’s second child has come as a shock to a bunch of internet users.
But if you’ve been following the pair over the years, you’ll be aware that Khloé and Tristan actually began exploring the option of surrogacy in 2020 — despite having been separated at the time.
A couple of years prior, while she was pregnant with True, Khloé faced a “high risk of miscarrying” due to super-low levels of progesterone in her body — a hormone vital for stabilizing the inner lining of the uterus.
And so, the reality star considered opting for surrogacy after she and Tristan decided it’d be “selfish” not to give True a sibling — despite the fact that Tristan has a now-5-year-old son, Prince, shared with his ex-girlfriend Jordan Craig.
During an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians that aired in April 2020, Khloé revealed she’d begun the process of freezing her eggs. “I’ve been doing hormone injections for about five days,” she said in a confessional.
Khloé went on to reveal that she’d chosen Tristan to be her sperm donor after hearing from her doctor about the benefits of combining her eggs with sperm to create embryos.
“After my doctor's appointment, I talked to Tristan,” she said. “If you can create embryos and do all the DNA testing, I do think that's the smarter choice. But it's weird because Tristan and I — we're not together.”
About a year later, during the final season of Keeping Up, Khloé and Tristan — who, as they revealed in March, had reconciled things romantically — discussed the expansion of their family in more detail as they spoke with a surrogate therapist.
In fact, Tristan said himself that he was super excited to be embarking on a “new chapter” with Khloé, adding that he would provide “whatever” she needed.
And after much back-and-forth, with Khloé finding things to be “way more overwhelming” than she’d first imagined, the pair wound up deciding to pursue surrogacy.
Not too long after this season of KUWTK aired, Tristan was accused of cheating on Khloé again and the pair split up. However, they rekindled things just a few months afterward, as Hulu’s The Kardashiansrecently revealed, and presumably picked back up on the surrogacy process where they left off.
In fact, over the latter months of last year, Tristan repeatedly discussed marriage with Khloé, even telling her mom Kris that he was ready to settle down and focus on their future.
And watching the final episode of last season’s The Kardashians back following the latest news of the surrogacy, it appears Kim was dropping hints about Khloé and Tristan's second child the entire time.
When discussing Maralee’s pregnancy with Kourtney and Kylie, Kim said: “This is the biggest sign. The whole thing that's so sad is Khloé wanted a boy, and this girl is having a boy.”
In a confessional, Kim appeared angry as she said: “I’m so proud of who Khloé is, that she wanted to give her relationship a second chance. Even after [Tristan] dogged her and embarrassed the shit out of her. When the whole world is looking at you, laughing at you, calling you every name in the book — do you know how hard that is? That is 10 times harder to stay in a situation than it is to leave.”
It’s yet to be confirmed whether or not the next season of The Kardashians — which is set to air on Sept. 22 — will feature Khloé and Tristan’s surrogacy, with its recent trailer making no reference to the subject.
Meanwhile, neither Khloé nor Tristan have yet to publicly speak out about the topic themselves. We’ll be sure to update you if they do.
