This Photo Shows Shocked Texas Teen After He Was Arrested For Bringing Homemade Clock To School

A photo shared by Ahmed Mohamed's family shows the teen with his hands cuffed behind his back and wearing a NASA shirt as police escort him off his high school campus in Irving.

I expect they will have more to say tomorrow, but Ahmed's sister asked me to share this photo. A NASA shirt!

A 14-year old MacArthur High School student with ambitions of becoming an engineer was arrested and suspended on Monday for bringing a homemade clock to school.

Ahmed Mohamed, a ninth-grader, told NBC DFW that he loves to show off his engineering skills and "wanted to start clean with the teacher by showing him my inventions and stuff."

But at least three of his teachers at school suspected the homemade clock was a bomb, and one of them notified school administrators who then called the police.

The photo above, shared by the Mohamed family through a blogger, shows the moment the cops were about to escort the shocked teen -- clad in a NASA t-shirt -- off campus. The bespectacled boy's arms are handcuffed behind his back with the cuffs hanging loosely around his thin wrists.

Mohamed's arrest and suspension has already received national attention. U.S. Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton encouraged Mohamed to continue his engineering passions in a tweet on Tuesday.

Assumptions and fear don't keep us safe—they hold us back. Ahmed, stay curious and keep building. https://t.co/ywrlHUw3g1

The shared photo and Mohamed's arrest has also received strong reactions on Twitter.

@anildash You know what's also sad? STEM education is so lacking in this country that an EDUCATOR confuses innovation for intimidation. Smh

White kid builds a clock he would be praised as a genius. Muslim kid builds a clock and is assumed he built a bomb. #IStandWithAhmed
