Women on Sex looks at topics such as virginity, rape culture, and sex education.

The series invites women from a range of backgrounds – teachers, actresses, writers – to openly discuss their sexual history and beliefs about sexuality and the female body.

Its creator, South African actress and director Mmabatho Montsho, told BuzzFeed News that the idea for the series came from the need to challenge representations of black women in the media.

"I wanted to create an audiovisual record of these conversations precisely because I couldn't find them," she said. "Content is still very much colonized in South Africa and the experiences of black women are usually filtered through a condescending white, male gaze. It is a narrative I want to disrupt."

Viewers have been using the hashtag #ThePhuckingTruth to share the videos and their own experiences.

Our lesson for today: the vagina is not like pantyhose. It doesn't 'loosen' with each... thrust : https://t.co/LP07QjnALP #thephuckingtruth

#WomenOnSex #ThePhuckingTruth i love what this series is doing for women, lets dare to have these conversations @MmabathoMontsho THANK YOU

"Sex symbol is literally you flashing your bank statement in a form of a human being"- @MbauReloaded @WomenOnSex #thephuckingtruth.

Montsho said that she'd like the series to develop into seminars where women meet and can talk together about sex.

"To have women sitting in a room talking face to face is an incredible opportunity to share and learn from each other. A hugely important element in challenging representation is the active participation of the audience."
