The Sad Story Behind Weird Al's Old Record Case

"You can have it as long as you don't sell it on eBay." The box is currently up for auction on eBay.

Here is a '60s/'70s record case formerly owned by Weird Al Yankovic. It's for sale on eBay RIGHT NOW:

WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU NOT WANT TO OWN WEIRD AL'S RECORD BOX?????

Right now, you can bid on a record box (a box for carrying records) owned by Weird Al Yankovic. The eBay page has an amazing story of the provenance of the item:

I was the producer of "The Dr. Demento Show" from 1981 to 1991, and "Weird Al" Yankovic was working in our company's mailroom at the time. We watched him go from zero to hero with "Another Rides the Bus," "Eat It," etc., and I developed a friendship with him during that time.

Eventually, I moved to a small town in Northern San Diego County....Fallbrook. Coincidentally, this was also where a few of "Weird Al's" relatives live, including his parents. I knew the house where they lived but I didn't bother them as I didn't know them all that well, so I minded my own business.

In April of 2004 tragedy struck and "Weird Al's" parents were killed by carbon monoxide poisoning in their home. I felt that Al would have to come over and go through his parent's possessions, and I wanted to pay my respects to him for his loss personally, so I waited a few weeks and then went over there one day on a Saturday afternoon. Well, I happened to hit the nail on the head and got lucky because he was there, alone, cleaning out the garage! We talked, hugged, laughed, cried...it was a sad moment as he also knew that I had lost my wife of many years a few years earlier.

I saw in the pile of things he was sorting through this record box, and I asked for it and he gave it to me.

The eBay seller, Robert Young, confirmed to BuzzFeed this is all true. The funny thing is that when Young asked Al if he could have the record box, Al replied, "Sure, as long as you're not going to just sell it on eBay." Young waited 10 years, and eventually when he was moving and downsizing things, he wanted to unload it. He emailed the drummer of Al's band, John Schwartz, whom he has kept in touch with since the '80s when Yankovic and Schwartz took odd jobs around the radio station where their mentor, Dr. Demento, worked. Schwartz said Al gave his blessing to sell the item.

The box has a reserve in the low triple digits that hasn't been met yet. Perhaps now is your chance!

And because this week is officially Weird Al Week (Al is releasing a new video each day for eight days from his new album), here are three new videos:
