Tumblr is adding a new feature for the iPhone app: a built-in GIF-maker. You can upload a video or photo burst (via your camera's burst mode), then edit the length and speed. Boom: GIF'd.
According to a rep for Tumblr, "GIF Maker is all about creation, and as we see more people turn to their mobile devices, we have an ongoing effort and commitment to expand the creative canvas and tool set to mobile."
So far this is only for the Tumblr iPhone app, Android will come later. Nor will it work on your desktop.
The new GIF tool comes just a week after Tumblr introduced an instant messaging feature (which will be rolled out to everyone by December).
