Resigning Rep. Aaron Schock offered some thoughts about adversity in his farewell address on the House floor Thursday, following his resignation amid scandal.
"I also know that every person faces adversity in life," Schock said. "Abraham Lincoln held this seat in congress for one term. But few faced as many defeats in his personal, business, and public life as he did."
Schock is resigning after scrutiny over his office's use of taxpayer money on trips (such as bringing a large group of staffers to the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park in New York City, where they stayed at the Palace Hotel) and, more critically, asking for 90,000 miles he did not drive to be reimbursed. Schock is reportedly under criminal investigation.
Following his tenure in Schock's seat, Lincoln held the country together during the Civil War and freed the slaves.
