Remote-controlled, multi-rotor consumer drones, which can cost as little as a few hundred bucks. More expensive models can carry heavier camera rigs; most of these videos, however, were shot with off-the-shelf DSLR cameras.
Some of these shots could have been taken with a helicopter, albeit at much greater expense. Many, though, are either too close to the ground, taken in tight spaces, or filmed indoors. Drones are developing a visual language all their own — a slow, drifting, rising, rising, falling and sweeping aesthetic that we haven't quite seen before.
