Toronto Mayor Rob Ford made an appearance at an Italian festival over the weekend, greeting locals, posing for photos, and generally continuing to look casual, despite last week's police raid on a Toronto house that may have been the backdrop of a video of Ford allegedly smoking crack-cocaine.

If he was in a good mood, it was dampened by a cup of juice reportedly thrown at him by Shannon Everett, a 27-year-old festival-goer.

"He was being awesome, he was just talking to everybody, like taking pictures with everyone," one witness told Now Toronto. "All of a sudden a slushy just came flying in the air." (Police later said the slushy was actually a "cup of juice.")

From the Toronto Star:

A Ford staffer pointed out a woman, who took off running, he said. Ford and a staff member took off after her, chasing her down a short distance away, he said.

Ford staffers fetched nearby police officers, who spoke with the young woman and Ford before taking her into custody.

Everett was arrested and faces charges of assault. On a radio talk show the next day, Ford said he caught a "quick whiff" of alcohol in the juice, which apparently only splashed him.

"It's not funny," Ford said. "That hurt, man. When it hits you in the face, you don't expect it, right?"

"It could have been hot chocolate," the mayor's brother and city councillor Doug Ford said on the same show. "It could have been something more dangerous, it could have been a weapon."
