More Charges Filed Against Oklahoma City Cop Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Women

Holtzclaw now faces 32 charges related to the sexual abuse of 13 women — up from 16 counts from 8 women, as detailed in a September BuzzFeed News story.

On Tuesday, prosecutors in Oklahoma City filed six more charges against Daniel Holtzclaw — three counts of first-degree rape, one count of second-degree rape, one count of sexual battery, and one count of forcible oral sodomy.

According to court records obtained by KWTV-TV, Holtzclaw allegedly told his victims things like, "You are going to give me some sex ... Or you're ass is going to jail," or, "This is what you are going to have to do. I don't want to take you to jail."

Holtzclaw, an officer with the Oklahoma City Police Department, was arrested outside his gym on Aug. 21. Prosecutors initially filed 16 felony counts against Holtzclaw, ranging from burglary and indecent exposure to stalking and rape.

Holtzclaw worked the 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. shift in northeast Oklahoma City. He had been on the force for three years.

In September, BuzzFeed News offered the first detailed look at those charges. Investigators at the time argued that Holtzclaw targeted women who he thought wouldn't report being assaulted — mostly middle-aged black women with criminal records.

An investigation into Holtzclaw began after one woman, identified as J.L., went to the police following an alleged encounter with the 27-year-old officer.

Holtzclaw's "mistake" — the slip-up that prosecutors said landed him in orange jail scrubs in an unremarkable fluorescent-lit courtroom on Wednesday — was believing J.L. was similar to his other alleged victims: all black middle-aged women, but women of a lower social status and with reason to fear the authorities. They had been caught with active warrants or drug paraphernalia. J.L., Davis said, had no criminal record to be held over her. She was driving through the neighborhood where the other women were confronted, but she didn't live there.

Holtzclaw left jail on Sept. 9 after paying a $500,000 bond. But in mid-September, he allegedly violated the conditions of his bail, landing him back in jail for 14 days in October with an increased bond. He was released again on Oct. 16.

In the meantime, prosecutors filed 10 more charges, bringing Holtzclaw's total count to 26.

From prosecutors' first filing against the former Eastern Michigan star player, officials said there was a possibility more victims would come forward.

Tuesday's filing brings that number up to 32. One of the new identified victims is reportedly a 17-year-old girl.

Holtzclaw's family has said that he "vigorously denies" the allegations. On Tuesday, they used the Justice For Daniel Holtzclaw Facebook page to call the new charges "nothing more than accusations from those with an ulterior motive."
