Twitter user @SirAnduck posted the above video around 8 a.m., after tweeting that he saw someone pull a knife outside the Today studios. It's unclear what exactly the man is doing in the video, but you can clearly see him getting tackled. The video's poster later said the man was maced first, then tackled.
His knife is more visible in this photo:
In a photo of the aftermath, it appears the man is lying next to a small puddle of blood.
According to the New York Post, the man was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for treatment after the incident. On air, Today host Matt Lauer confirmed that the man was trying to harm himself.
Lauer then noted that the show would be staying inside while security and law-enforcement officials dealt with the situation. The windows that normally offer a glimpse of activity outside the studio were covered as well.
Lauer noted that the man said something about not wanting to harm others, but did want to cause harm to himself.
On Twitter, Lauer and Today's main account reiterated that no one was harmed.
