Dzhokhar Tsarnaev indicted by federal grand jury. Charged with using weapons of mass destruction, killing 4 individuals among other charges
A federal grand jury returned Thursday a 30-count indictment against 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, one of the two suspected Boston bombers.
The U.S. attorney's office said 17 of Tsarnaev's charges could result in life in prison or the death penalty, according to the Associated Press.
Tsarnaev is suspected of working with his brother, Tamerlan, to place two pressure cooker bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15. Three people died and more than 260 were injured. One MIT police officer later died in a shoot-out with the suspects. Tamerlan died later that night, in another shoot-out with police.
Tsarnaev's charges include using a weapon of mass destruction, bombing a place of public use, carjacking, malicious destruction of property, and firearm possession and use.
More details about Tsarnaev's capture were also included in the indictment, including notes he left on the inside of his Watertown hiding place, a boat called the Slipaway II.
