The video was shot from the International Space Station, hundreds of miles above the Earth.

The station orbits at an altitude of about 250 miles and, moving at speeds of more than 17,000 miles per hour, makes one rotation of the planet in about 90 minutes.

Alexander Gerst, of the European Space Agency, is responsible for the video. He set up a camera in the station's cupola observatory module, and voila: Earth in a day.
