Philadelphia Woman Found Alive After Abduction Captured On Video

Carlesha Freeland-Gaither was located Wednesday in Jessup, Maryland. Her alleged abductor — a wanted fugitive in Virginia — was arrested. It later emerged that he had also abducted a teen in Virginia a month previously.

Authorities have said that, prior to abducting Carlesha Freeland-Gaither from the streets of Philadelphia, Delvin Barnes hit a teen with a shovel in a Virginia car park, before stuffing her into the trunk of his car, CNN reported.

Maryland extradited Barnes to face charges in Virginia, where he was booked and processed on Thursday night.

The Virginia incident took place 275 miles and one month before from the Philadelphia abduction. Authorities said the Virginia victim is 16 years old, and was sexually abused, CNN reported.

Authorities say the victim did not know Barnes.

A judge held alleged abductor Delvin Barnes without bail at a hearing in Townson, MD. Barnes waived his extradition to Virginia and will face attempted murder charges there. The judge gave Virginia authorities five days to pick him up from the Baltimore County detention center.

The 22-year-old woman put up a brave fight against her alleged abductor during the three-day ordeal, Philadelphia's police commissioner said Thursday.

"My understanding is, even after she was in the car and bound, she continued to struggle with this guy," Charles Ramsey told ABC's Good Morning America. "She's got a lot of fight in her."

Police said Freeland-Gaither was snatched from a street then shoved into a car Sunday night. She was on her way home from a visit with her godson when she was taken.

Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents found Freeland-Gaither inside a parked car in Jessup, Maryland on Wednesday. She was taken to the hospital with minor injuries but is now in "good shape" according to law enforcement officials.

Her alleged abductor, Delvin Barnes, 37, was arrested at the scene of the crime, authorities said.

After the abduction, police tracked Barnes to Maryland, picking up clues at businesses just off of Interstate 95, NBC Philadelphia reported. Among those clues was surveillance footage of Barnes using Freeland-Gaither's ATM card.

During Wednesday's news conference, FBI Special Agent Ed Hanko said tips, among other things, help police track Barnes to Maryland. There, they "surveilled his vehicle," arresting him and rescuing Freeland-Gaither when he got out.

Barnes has ties to Philadelphia and Virginia, police said Wednesday, and apparently did not know Freeland-Gaither.

He is being held on a warrant from Virginia for attempted murder assault and malicious injury with acid, explosives or fire in a separate case, CNN reported, adding that that he is also accused of allegedly raping and torturing a teen there.

He is at a suburban Baltomore County jail and is scheduled to have a hearing on Thursday afternoon on charges of being a wanted fugitive in Virginia, the Associated Press reported.

Barnes is expected to face federal charges in Freeland-Gaither's abduction case.

Freeland-Gaither's mother, Keisha Gaither, expressed her gratitude to authorities, saying, "Thank you for being there for us. I'm taking my baby home."

At a news conference Wednesday, Gaither said her daughter was "very upset" and was crying during a phone call. Freeland-Gaither did not attend the conference and was resting at her home in Philadelphia.
