No injuries were reported when the two planes collided on the tarmac near a passenger gate Tuesday, airlines officials said.

My plane just hit another plane and broke the wing! #Southwest #LaGuardia #LateForXMas?

Two jetliners from American and Southwest airlines collided at about 11 a.m. Tuesday while on the tarmac at LaGuardia Airport in New York City.

None of the 143 passengers on board the Southwest flight to Denver were injured in the collision, which was heavily documented by passengers on social media.

American Airlines also reported no injuries on its flight.

"The wingtip of the aircraft operating Southwest Airlines Flight #449 departing from New York LaGuardia to Denver came in contact with another aircraft that was awaiting a gate," Southwest said in a statement to BuzzFeed News.

One photo posted to Twitter shows an airport worker with what appears to be a piece of the Southwest jet's wing tip, with the American Airlines plane parked at a passenger gate.

Passengers were forced to disembark the Southwest jet for the terminal, where airline staff worked to find them alternate flights.
