Osama Bin Laden Family Members Killed In England Plane Crash

A jet carrying family members of Osama bin Laden overshot a runway in England Friday, bursting into a fireball when it slammed into parked cars. There were no survivors.

Saudi Arabia's U.K. embassy on Friday confirmed that family members of Osama bin Laden were killed in a private jet crash at an airport in southern England.

British authorities have confirmed four people died in the crash, including the pilot. According to Saudi media reports, the sister and stepmother of the former al Qaeda leader were among the fatalities.

On Friday, the Saudi ambassador to the U.K. posted the following statement on Twitter:

سمو سفير خادم الحرمين الشريفين الامير محمد بن نواف يعزي أسرة بن لادن.

Translation: "His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Nawaf Al Saud... has paid his condolences to the family and relatives of Mohammed bin Laden at Blackbushe airport in Britain for the great loss they have suffered as a result of the crash of the plane that was carrying the family."

The jet — which is owned by bin Laden's family — overshot the runway at Blackbushe Airport about 40 miles south of London around 3 p.m. local time, crashing through a fence and into a lot of parked cars before bursting into a fireball. There were no injuries reported on the ground, but no one on board the aircraft survived, Hampshire police officials said.

An airport spokesperson told British media that the Phenom 300 jet crashed near the end of the runway around 3:09 p.m. while attempting to make a landing. An investigation into what caused the crash remained ongoing.

The sprawling bin Laden family has a history of plane-related deaths. Osama bin Laden's father, Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden, was killed when his twin prop plane crashed into a runway in Saudi Arabia. And in 1988, his brother Salem was killed when the ultralight craft he was flying in Texas hit power lines and plummeted to the ground.

Osama bin Laden was shot dead in 2011 by U.S. forces in Pakistan.
