"American Horror Story" Loses Jessica Lange

After four seasons, Lange said she's done with Ryan Murphy's anthology series.

Jessica Lange confirmed what American Horror Story fans have long feared on Sunday: She's leaving the franchise.

"I'm done," Lange said, after struggling to get out the words, during the American Horror Story: Freak Show panel at PaleyFest in Los Angeles. "You know, we've had a great run here. I mean, I have absolutely loved doing these four characters that I've had the opportunity to play. In all the madness, I've loved the writers and my actors and Ryan [Murphy] and the whole, I mean, insanity of it."

Lange historically took her time to commit to additional seasons of the show, citing the intense shooting schedule. Even though she'd long maintained that Season 4 would be her last, Ryan Murphy hinted to BuzzFeed News in August that he was attempting to lure her back for Season 5. Sadly, those hopes were dashed Sunday.

Murphy previously announced Lady Gaga will star in the fifth season of AHS, subtitled Hotel, and it was revealed during the PaleyFest panel that Matt Bomer and Cheyenne Jackson will also co-star in Season 5, slated to premiere in October.

Thank you for those four sublime seasons, Jessica Lange. You will always be our AHS HBIC.
