"The Walking Dead" Spin-Off Is Coming This Summer!

The series will be set in Los Angeles and will have a whole new cast. UPDATE: It will be called Fear the Walking Dead.

AMC announced on Monday that it has ordered two seasons of a Walking Dead spin-off series.

The not-yet-titled show will be set in Los Angeles with new characters and new story lines and will kick off the first of its six hour-long episodes late this summer. Season 2 will launch in 2016.

The new series will star Cliff Curtis...

Kim Dickens...

Frank Dillane...

And Alycia Debnam-Carey.

The Walking Dead's executive producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, and David Alpert will also serve as executive producers on the new series, and Dave Erickson, who co-created and co-wrote the pilot with Kirkman, will act as executive producer and showrunner.

"We take incredibly seriously the notion of building a satisfying companion series to the number one show on television. From the beginning of The Walking Dead on AMC, we've been asked questions about what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it looked like as the world really did 'turn,'" AMC President Charlie Collier said in a statement. "Through this new series, we're going to find out."

On March 27, Kirkman tweeted the official name of the series: Fear the Walking Dead.

IT'S OFFICIAL! The walking dead companion show on AMC is called FEAR THE WALKING DEAD! Expect more news very soon! #FearTheWalkingDead
