Catholic Billboard In Massachusetts Defaced

Vandals added the text "The other WHITE meat" below a billboard about a Catholic radio station.

A religious billboard for a Boston Catholic radio station that read "Try God." was defaced Friday. Vandals covered the words "1060 AM Catholic Radio" with "The other WHITE meat."

The station's manager, Chris Kelley, said the vandalism was more than just "some teenagers with spray paint," but said it was a sign the campaign was successful.

"This is clearly not a circumstance of some teenagers with spray paint. Someone went to a lot of trouble to make it appear that the new text was a real billboard message," Kelley said in a statement. "This act, however, is an indication that the 'Try God' billboard campaign is attracting attention and making people reflect on the role of God in our lives ... That attention is the silver-lining and a sign that the campaign already has been successful."

By Monday morning, the billboard was restored. It is one of 23 throughout the Boston metropolitan area that have been up since July 22, the Catholic Radio Network says.

Kelley said he hopes those who defaced the billboard will try God and give the station a listen.

"We pray for those who did this that whatever troubles they have that would cause this action that God heals them and then get the help they need. We ask them to 'Try God,' perhaps by listening to 1060AM Catholic Radio."
