Iran Showing Off Its Underground Missile Base Is Straight Out Of James Bond

The footage aired on Iranian state TV is meant to bolster the spirits of lawmakers after they approved a deal limiting the country's nuclear program.

Iranian state TV on Wednesday released footage of a missile base buried deep within the earth, showcasing the country's military might just days after officially signing a deal to limit its nuclear program.

Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' aerospace division, said Iran would not start any war but "if enemies make a mistake, missile bases will erupt like a volcano from the depth of earth."

"Those who pin hope on options on the table, should only have a look at the Islamic Republic's army options under the table," he continued.

In theory, AP said, the video is meant to show skeptical lawmakers — who just this week approved a pact with world powers lifting sanctions in exchange for limits on its nuclear program — the fact that Iran is still more than capable of defending itself.

That was the point, too, of a long-range surface-to-air missile test Iran conducted over the weekend, which the United States on Wednesday said was in violation of U.N. Security Council sanctions.

But the video itself doesn't so much strike fear into the heart of the viewer as a sense of motion sickness, with more jump cuts and shaky camerawork than a freshman film student who has only seen Michael Bay films.

The slow-zoom out revealing the entire staff of the missile base is also reminiscent of that time your high school yearbook finally had the budget to afford a camcorder and wanted to do a ~video edition~.

So even though it may not have had quite the impact Tehran wanted, do yourself a favor and listen to the epic score that accompanies the footage, which sounds like it was ripped straight from a fan-made movie trailer.
