By now we're all familiar with the shtick of the insanely popular photoblog Humans of New York, yes? Brandon Stanton takes pictures of ordinary people on the street and tells their story and the internet goes wild.
After a stint in Pakistan earlier this summer, Stanton is now in Iran, where he is trying to tell the stories he wasn't able to capture during his last visit three years ago.
The most common theme in the stories that are coming out of Iran is love, in all its many shapes and forms. From the first bloom of romantic love...
...to the enduring love between father and son.
From the richness of love that has been built up over a lifetime...
...to the devastating sadness that comes when love has gone.
Several of HONY's posts deal with the struggle that average Iranians are going through as their economy — weakened by sanctions placed on the country due to Iran's nuclear program — continues to falter.
Some touch on the lives that Iranian women lead in a culture that — while in many ways still considered repressive — is changing more rapidly than outsiders may realize.
There are some posts that are hilarious.
And then there are some that are just unfair. Like this one. This is a stab right in the feelings.
So thank you for all the laughter and tears from Iran, Brandon.
