Two Bombs Kill Dozens Of People In Yemen

Two blasts — one in the south of the country and one in the capital, Sanaa — have resulted in multiple casualties.

Two separate suicide bombs — one in the capital and one in the south of the country — have killed dozens of people in Yemen.

A suicide bomber killed at least 47 people and wounded 75 when he set off his explosives in the center of the country's capital, Sanaa, on Thursday morning, Yemen's health ministry said.

The bomb targeted a gathering of supporters of the rebel Shiite Houthis, who recently overran the city.

Last month, after a month of anti-government protest, Houthi forces were able to seize large parts of Sanaa. Fighting then broke out between Houthi fighters, various tribal and Islamist groups, and forces loyal to Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar, a military commander and head of the 1st Armored Division. A peace deal was eventually brokered.

A second blast took place on the outskirts of the southern city of Mukalla. A suicide car-bomber is believed to have smashed his vehicle against a security outpost, killing at least 20 soldiers.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks, but they are believed to bear the hallmarks of al-Qaeda, the Associated Press reported.
