The body of a 6-year-old boy has been found in the waters of Oregon's Yaquina Bay after his mother told officials she threw him off a bridge, authorities said.
London McCabe's body was found by Newport police in water roughly a mile away from the span after an extensive search in which two coastguard boats and a helicopter were deployed. His mother, 34-year-old Jillian Meredith McCabe, had called 911 four hours earlier, CNN reported.
Newport Police Chief Mark J. Miranda said the boy had died of homicidal violence, and McCabe, of Seal Rock, Oregon, was arrested and charged with murder. Bail was set at $750,000.
Police confirmed to CBS affiliate KOIN-TV that London was McCabe's son, and the station reported that McCabe would be arraigned via video at 1:15 p.m. PT Tuesday.
NBC News reported that an Oregon woman matching McCabe's name and mugshot had launched an appeal looking for funding to help in the care of her autistic son, London, and multiple sclerosis-suffering husband, Matt.
