Church Attacks Kill 10 In Pakistan

Bomb blasts near two churches in the city of Lahore killed 10 people and injured at least 50, the BBC reported.

Ten people were killed and at least 50 others injured when two bombs went off near two churches in a Christian area in the city of Lahore in northern Pakistan.

The victims were mainly churchgoers attending Sunday Mass, the BBC reported.

Jamatul Ahrar, a terrorist group with ties to the Taliban, has claimed responsibility.

Eyewitnesses said the attacks were carried by suicide bombers, but authorities have not been able to confirm this.

Amir Masih, told Reuters how shortly before the blast he saw a security guard in a heated exchange with a man: "I rushed towards the spot and saw the security guard scuffle with a man who was trying to enter the church," he said.

According to Masih, after the man failed in his bid to enter the church he blew himself up outside.

A large group of people flocked to the site of the blasts, with local residents protesting against the lack of security.

A mob attacked two men it believed were involved in the attack. One of them was killed.

Christians make-up less than 2% of Pakistan's majority Muslim population.

In 2013, 80 people were killed in a bomb attack at a church, in the deadliest act of violence against the country's Christian community.
