AMC, Including "The Walking Dead," Might Not Be Available On DirecTV Much Longer

The network's agreement with the satellite company expires at the end of the year and negotiations for a new contract are currently at a standstill.

During The Walking Dead on Sunday night, AMC alerted DirecTV viewers that they soon might not be able to watch the network's highest-rated show. As first reported by Deadline, AMC's carriage agreement with DirecTV is set to expire at the end of 2014 and talks to extend the contract have reached a roadblock.

During the Nov. 2 episode of The Walking Dead, AMC urged viewers to call the 855-KEEP-AMC hotline and visit the KeepAMC.com, with the warning, "You are at risk of losing AMC and The Walking Dead," according to Variety. If AMC and DirecTV wound up cutting ties, only half of The Walking Dead's 16 episodes in its current fifth season will have been broadcast.

According to Variety, AMC offered the following statement: "Our goal is to continue our partnership, by renewing our agreement and extending our business relationship well into the future. Unfortunately, DirecTV has not engaged in meaningful negotiations with us, which leaves us to doubt whether a timely renewal is possible." The network also noted that DirecTV dropped AMC in Latin America.

The Walking Dead's last episode of 2014 airs on Nov. 30 and the latter half Season 5 is scheduled to pick up in February. The fifth season of The Walking Dead also launched with the highest-rated episode ever with nearly 17.3 million viewers tuning in.

DirecTV and AMC did not immediately respond to BuzzFeed News' requests for comment.
