Virginia Mom Convicted Of Mooning A School Bus

Lisa Marie Grant of Suffolk, Virginia, was convicted of mooning a school bus full of children and sentenced to one month in jail. The 34-year-old single mother was charged with disorderly conduct following a confrontation with her son's bus driver in November.

The incident, which occured on Nov. 29, was prompted by a note that John Yeates Middle School bus driver Melba Jordan Osborne sent home with Grant's son a few days earlier. Grant told WVEC News that her son came home with a note from the driver about his poor conduct on the bus, "Saying that he was giving 'dap' to another student, basically a high-five dap and now she's saying he was jumping over the seats and fighting with kids," she explained. When Grant learned that her son had been assigned a seat at the front of the bus due to his misbehavior, she decided to speak to the driver at the bus stop.

On the morning of Nov. 29, Grant walked to the bus stop with her son and 4-year-old daughter. When the bus pulled up, with approximately 45 kids on board, Grant began a heated confrontation with school bus driver Melba Osborne. The bus driver testified that Grant walked up to the vehicle saying, "I'm going to get you, I'm going to get you," prompting Osborne to shut the doors to her and her son.

When Osborne refused to let Grant onto the bus, she "became very irate and began cursing," at which point the bus driver called the police. Grant then walked in front of the vehicle, blocking the path of the bus, according to her arrest warrant. Then, Grant allegedly exposed her buttocks and one breast while the bus full of middle schoolers watched and took pictures on their phones. A security video obtained by Wavy News depicts some of this conflict.

Although Grant was convicted of disorderly conduct, charges of indecent exposure were dismissed. She was was sentenced in General District Court to six months in jail, with five months suspended, and fined $250. Grant will serve her time on weekends.

"I did not moon the bus. I did not flash," Grant told WAVY News after the verdict had been delivered. "I take full responsibility for my actions, for my disorderly conduct, for my arguing with [the bus driver]. I take full responsibility for that, but she also deserves the same thing I got."
