Federal Court Upholds New Jersey Ban On Gay Conversion Therapy

A federal judge ruled that the law does not violate free speech or freedom of religion.

A federal judge Friday upheld a New Jersey law banning therapists from attempting to change a minors' sexual orientation. Governor Chris Christie signed into law the bill prohibiting so-called "gay conversion therapy" in August.

The Washington Post reports that the suit was filed by an unidentified couple, who claimed that the law violated their right to free speech and religion, as well as their right to equal protection under the 14th Amendment, by "denying minors the opportunity to pursue a particular course of action that can help them address the conflicts between their religious and moral values and same-sex attractions, behaviors or identity."
