Kourtney Kardashian Opened Up About Why She “Never” Wanted To Get Married After Previously Hinting She Was Too “Indecisive” To Marry Scott Disick

Before she married Travis Barker, Kourtney rejected a number of marriage proposals from Scott Disick, whom she dated for nearly a decade.

Next month, it will have been an entire year since Kourtney Kardashian Barker and Travis Barker got married in a lavish ceremony in Portofino, Italy.

And now, at long last, the couple is finally giving us an inside look at the big day in their brand-new Hulu special episode, "‘Til Death Do Us Part," which dropped today.

The show takes viewers behind the scenes at all three of Kourtney and Travis’s wedding ceremonies: the first drunken (but not legally binding) ceremony in Vegas, the second at a Santa Barbara courthouse, and finally, the big Italian affair with all their friends and family.

If you’ve been following the Kardashians for a while, you’ll know that Kourtney’s decision to have not one, but three wedding ceremonies came as somewhat of a surprise to fans given that she’d spent years rejecting the idea of marriage.

As I’m sure you know, before she was with Travis, Kourtney was in a long-term, on-again, off-again relationship with Scott Disick.

Kourtney and Scott were together for nearly a decade and welcomed three children together in that time but never got married.

For the record, we don’t know for sure exactly how many times Scott might have asked Kourtney to marry him during the time they were together, but we do know that he was certainly very keen on the idea.

When he first proposed in 2007, Kourtney initially accepted. Kris Jenner wound up intervening and persuaded her daughter not to go through with it, worrying that the marriage would end in disaster.

The Talentless apparel founder tried to propose again in 2011, but this time, Kourtney shut down the idea herself and explained to him in the Season 1 finale of Kourtney and Kim Take New York that she was happy with how things already were.

Six years later, Scott thought about marrying Kourtney once more, revealing to Kim and Khloé during an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians that he privately proposed to her with a ring but that they “got scared” and “never spoke about it again.”

And in spite of Kourtney’s reluctance, Scott never let go of his hopes of a wedding, expressing again in 2020 that they would one day “get married and live a good life.”

Of course, we know now that Scott and Kourtney never had the fairy-tale ending he’d been hoping for, as she eventually wound up getting engaged to Travis in October 2021.

During an interview with Bustle last year, Kourtney opened up about her engagement and alluded to the reasons that she never marked that milestone in any of her past relationships.

“I just used to be really indecisive,” she told the outlet. “I felt like I had to poll a lot of people to help me decide things. I think it was in a time when I maybe felt more insecure or not in the greatest relationships.”

And now, in her and Travis’s new Hulu special, Kourtney shed more light on the reasons she was previously put off by the idea of getting married.

During one particularly special moment in the episode, Kourt explained that the 2003 death of her father, Robert Kardashian Sr., changed her perspective on the prospect of marriage.

“When my dad died, I remember thinking: ‘I never wanna get married because my dad isn’t there to walk me down the aisle,’” she says.

But, despite not being able to share the day with him, we learned that Kris still found a sweet way of making sure Kourtney felt connected to her father, gifting her the wedding ring Kris had when she and Robert tied the knot back in 1978.

We see Kourtney show the ring to Khloé at the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding, saying that the gift meant “so much” to her.

Later in the show, Kourtney reflected on the “perfect” moments before she walked down the aisle with her mom, revealing that she could feel her dad’s presence around her.

“My dad would've loved Travis and Travis reminds me so much of my dad in the weirdest ways. I can’t even explain them,” she said. “I felt his presence and a sense of calm. It felt so good and calm… like, I'm ready and it just felt perfect.”

Touchingly, Travis also took a moment to pay tribute to Robert in his emotional speech at the wedding reception, bringing Kourtney close to tears.

“Thank you Kris for giving me Kourtney’s hand in marriage,” Travis said, visibly emotional. “Robert, I know you’re here in spirit and so proud,” he added, as Kourtney buried her face in his chest.

After all the weddings were over, the couple looked back on the festivities and said the idea of choosing the marriage ceremony they loved most would be like trying to pick a favorite child.

“Vegas was like our wild, rockstar wedding. Santa Barbara was as traditional as everybody else’s wedding could have been,” Travis said, before Kourtney added: “And then Italy was really romantic and classic.”

“They were all so different and so special,” she went on, before joking that they’re going to have “at least one more” — and honestly, I'm inclined to believe them.

’Til Death Do Us Part Kourtney & Travis, an inside look at the wedding of the year is available exclusively now on Hulu in the US and Disney+ in the UK, and all new episodes of The Kardashians Season 3 will launch from May 25 on Hulu and Disney+.
