It's 2019, and the Jonas Brothers are BACK.
To celebrate the release of their upcoming album, Happiness Begins, plus their first tour in six years, the brothers are on the cover of Paper magazine this summer.
First, we should talk about the photos. I love them.
I don't really know what to say other than you have to go to Paper magazine's Instagram and look at every single one of them, because they're amazing.
In the accompanying interview, Joe, Nick, and Kevin talked about their reunion as a band, including getting brutally honest about their experience working with Disney in the '00s.
Speaking about the article he wrote for Vulture in 2013 — which included a lot of revelations about their purity rings and not being allowed to grow beards — Joe said he doesn't feel as "frustrated" with the situation now as he did then.
"We were having to censor ourselves," Joe told Paper. "I think any artist could relate [to that frustration]. That's not fun."
We were at a standstill with our TV show and the movies. We were young adults, having to pretend like we're young teenagers. [The frustration] was such a weird mindset to get into, because we have Disney to thank for so much, they got us started in our career.
But, Nick added, while they sometimes felt "limited" during their years working with Disney, they have to acknowledge that it was "really good" for the band.
And he admitted that he thinks the band's breakup and years apart were ultimately a good thing, because they no longer have to keep up their ~squeaky clean~ image.
If we had continued to try to push things forward the way we were operating, it might have been difficult. Perhaps we would have had to make bolder statements... shocked people into understanding who we are. I think the world is more accepting of us as adults than they would have been if we insisted, "This is who we are now, accept us."
The interview also gave us a hint of what to expect in the Jonas Brothers' upcoming documentary, which details their decision to get back together as a band and start making music again.
Apparently, the movie shows the band rehashing old drama in conversations that Kevin says "probably only brothers can have without wanting to throw a table at each other".
Consider me way too excited to watch this documentary!!!
