Sorry Cappuccino, Wasabi Ginger Wins Lay's Potato Chips Contest

Voters picked from four finalists in the Lay's Do Us A Flavor contest, and the "creator" of the winning flavor will win $1 million or 1% of the flavor's sales this year.

The votes are in, and the new flavor of Lay's potato chips will be — drumroll please — wasabi ginger.

Meneko Spigner McBeth, a nurse from New Jersey, suggested the sushi-inspired flavor, which she said reminded her of cooking with her Japanese grandmother.

She was expected to be notified Monday night of her win and the prize — $1 million or 1% of the chips' sales over the next year, whichever is larger.

The company began its flavor contest in the U.K. under its Walkers brand, the AP reported. Now, 15 countries participate, and winners have included shrimp in Egypt and Sunday roast in New Zealand.

The other finalists, including the inventor of the cappuccino chip, will still receive $50,000.
