The CEO of Twitch announced Monday the video streaming company would be bought by Amazon.
According to Twitch, more than 55 million users each month broadcast or watch video games using the site.
"We've brought billions of hours of entertainment, laughter, joy and the occasional ragequit. I think we can all call that a pretty good start," Emmett Shear wrote.
Variety reported in May that Google's YouTube was interested in buying the company. That sale fell through, allowing Amazon to take a slice of the video-streaming pie that has so far been dominated by YouTube and Netflix.
