The press won another minor skirmish with the Romney campaign Friday when the campaign moved to allow the three wire services on the campaign trail each to include a pool reporter at Romney fundraisers, the Associated Press confirmed.
The wire services had fought for weeks to all be included, along with local and national "print" reporters and a television reporter.
"AP is pleased by this change, which is critical to solid news coverage. Along with other media, AP has long fought for access, and will continue to address this issue whenever it arises," the Associated Press Washington Bureau Chief, Sally Buzbee, said through a spokesman.
Spokespeople for Bloomberg News and Reuters, the other two wires, didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
The dispute over inclusion in the pool is one part routine sparring between the press and a politician, and one part a mark of a media landscape changing with disorienting swiftness. The difference between "wires" and "print" outlets included in the pool, more than half of whom publish primarily online, is not immediately obvious. The Romney campaign briefly sought to exclude BuzzFeed from the pool earlier this year based, they said, on a vanishing distinction between print and online media.
