The Republicans' Very Lame Attacks

Who cares who is a better historian?

Monday's debate marks Mitt Romney's best opportunity to turn the tide in the presidential campaign. It's broadcast, and it's early enough to feed into Florida's expensive, advertisement-driven political culture.

Instead the debate has been sedate and marked by some of the weakest barbs of the cycle.

Gingrich sent two of the early ones:

"He may have been a good financier he’s a terrible historian," he said of Romney.

"Your consultants aren’t very good historians," he said later.

This one doesn't seem likely to move the dial much.
