Yelp announced today that it has purchased Eat24, a food-delivery service, for $134 million. The acquisition means that it is entering into competition with companies like Grubhub (which also owns Seamless).
According to Yelp, it currently has about 135 million monthly users. It has developed a reputation for having a extremely vocal community, and is one of the easiest and most reliable ways to find a restaurant in a new city or neighborhood. In attempting to translate that into food orders as well it aims to be a streamlined one-stop shop from decision to delivery.
Eat24's acquisition comes on the heels of its announcement of a partnership with ride-hailing app Sidecar for deliveries.
