Shawn Mendes Just Released A Breakup Song Weeks After Announcing His Relationship With Camila Cabello Was Over

"We don't have to fix it, we don't have to stay / I will love you either way."

Shawn Mendes has released a brand new song — a breakup ballad called "It'll Be Okay."

In an announcement before the song's release, Shawn posted a picture on Instagram of the sun setting alongside the caption: "It feels like I haven't truly connected with you guys in a while. I miss you. I hope you love this song."

The song itself seems to chart a breakup and the realization between a couple that their relationship is coming to an end. The song's release comes just a few weeks after it was announced that his relationship with Camila Cabello had come to an end.

"Are we gonna make it? Is this gonna hurt?" Shawn sings in the opening verse of the song. "We can try to sedate it, but that never works."

Other lyrics of the song include: "I start to imagine a world where we don't collide / It's making me sick but we'll heal and the sun will rise."

In another verse, Shawn sings about a future the couple dreamed of "fading to black," which seems to reference the future plans he and Camila had made, something the couple were vocal about in interviews.

In an interview late last year, Shawn said Camila was his "forever person," revealing that they'd already spoken about getting married.

"I think for me it's always been if I'm not willing to talk about that stuff, then I kind of check out a little bit," he told Entertainment Tonight. "I really think when you know, you know. She's been one of my best friends since I was 15 years old. I dunno, at the same time, I know we're really young, so I don't wanna jump insanely fast, but I think when you find your person, you feel and know that you've found your person."

The lyrics of the song in the chorus appear to echo the joint statement Shawn and Camila released announcing the end of their relationship, which said their love for each other was "stronger than ever" and that they would remain friends.

Seeming to suggest that he will still love the person regardless of the outcome, the lyrics of the chorus say: "If you tell me you're leaving, I'll make it easy / It'll be okay / If we can't stop the bleeding / We don't have to fix it, we don't have to stay / I will love you either way."

Meanwhile, the statement they released announcing their breakup said: "Hey guys, we've decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever.

"We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward."

Showing her support for Shawn and proving that their friendship is still strong, Camila reposted the song on her Instagram story.
