Camila Cabello And Shawn Mendes Revealed How Therapy Has Helped Them Overcome "Very, Very Challenging" Negativity About Their Relationship

"For better, for worse, we're very transparent with each other. I think that's why we can trust each other so much, because it's a very 3D human relationship."

Camila Cabello was unveiled as the latest cover star for Glamour on Wednesday and opened up about her "3D human relationship" with boyfriend Shawn Mendes.

The 24-year-old revealed the pair go to therapy separately, and that this decision has helped them not only as individuals but as a couple.

"When stuff that's negative is out there, it's going to get to you," she said. "So yeah, that's very, very challenging. I feel like it's another thing therapy has been really helpful for."

"For better, for worse, we're very transparent with each other," Camila continued. "I think that's why we can trust each other so much, because it's a very 3D human relationship."

Discussing how their transparency helps their relationship, she said: "I'll be venting or ranting about something, and he'll be like, 'Have you talked to X about it?' And I'll be like, 'No. I've got to do a session.' And he'll do the same thing to me."

She went on: "I think even just the language of being like, 'Hey, I'm sorry that I've been distant with you or snappy with you. I'm just struggling and I'm feeling kind of anxious.' That level of transparency really helps a lot."

Shawn chimed in with his perspective, adding that both he and Camila "give each other an extreme amount of patience and understanding," which helps them to work through struggles.

"I think the truth is that when you're struggling with mental health, it turns you sometimes into the version of yourself that you don't like to be," he said. "Loving and accepting your person through that, and being there for them through that, is life-changing. We give each other so much space and understanding and patience."

Back in August, Shawn revealed that, although the pair "get in the worst little arguments," they're comfortable enough to call each other out.

"We have a really honest and open relationship, but…we definitely fight," he said in an interview with SiriusXM. "I think the longer the relationship goes, it's like the easier it seems to be to fight. So, yeah, it's definitely not that holding hands all the time, but we're really good with each other. It never gets bad. It's always like a little fight."

And in an Instagram caption posted in November last year, Camila also opened up about how the couple's relationship made her confront her "fears, anxieties, [and] insecurities."

"I've learned a lot about love with this guy," she wrote. "It's not just the happy blissful moments you see in pictures and videos. When you're in a relationship with someone, it feels like they are this mirror reflecting yourself back to you."

"It's not as simple as it looks in pictures sometimes," she went on. "Sometimes, it's messy and uncomfortable and ugly lol. But there's nothing like the pull, the FORCE that is love, to be the light in the darkness — to be the gravitational pull that gives you the relentless strength to be braver, wiser, and better than you were yesterday."
