With Avengers: Endgame dropping later this month, the cast is currently embroiled in a fun game of "Let's Do Interviews To Promote The Movie Without Actually Talking About The Movie Because We're Not Allowed To Give Away Any Spoilers".
As you can imagine, it's pretty exhausting work trying to skip around Endgame questions without giving anything away. Just ask Scarlett Johansson, who said in a recent Entertainment Weekly interview that she's "gonna have PTSD" once the press tour is over.
"I mean, honestly, it is so stressful. At the end of every day, I lie awake at night and I think about all the things I almost said. It gives me panic."
Nobody can probably relate to that more than the Hulk himself, Mark Ruffalo, who has something of a reputation for accidentally revealing Marvel spoilers and getting himself in trouble, something the other Avengers take great pleasure in teasing him about.
"Tell us about it, Mark, how do you feel?" said Scarlett, before Robert Downey, Jr. added: "You’re a repeat offender, Mr. Ruffalo."
When asked for the biggest spoiler he'd ever let slip, Scarlett immediately had an answer: "What about when you streamed the first 10 minutes of Thor: Ragnarok?" Robert agreed, chiming in: "That’s gotta be it."
They're, of course, referring to the time when Mark accidentally live-streamed the beginning of Thor: Ragnarok from the premiere before its official release.
At the 2017 event, Mark started an Instagram Live to show his fans what was going on. However, when the movie started, he put the phone in his pocket, forgetting to turn the live stream off. As a result, thousands of fans got to listen to the beginning of Ragnarok from the comfort of Mark's trouser pocket.
In an interview a couple of months later, Mark revealed that he got in pretty big trouble for the blunder. In fact, Disney was alerted to the problem and had to send someone over to sternly tell Mark to turn his phone off.
Adding to the story in the Entertainment Weekly interview, Mark said that he even got a "call from up high" following the incident. What I would've given to be a fly on the wall for that conversation.
But it turns out that Disney, Marvel, and his fellow Avengers managed to find a silver lining to the whole thing. "That was actually genius!" said Chris Hemsworth. "There might be some strategy there, because [the audience] laughed so hard during that [footage]. All [viewers] could hear was laughing. They went, 'It must be good!'"
Mark then revealed that, although he was terrified to walk on the Endgame set the following day, he actually didn't have anything to worry about. "It sort of turned around on me," he said. "When I came to work on Monday everyone ran up to me."
But they weren't coming to yell and scream at him. In fact, Barry Curtis, who works security for Marvel, threw his arms around Mark and said: "That was genius! We got more press than we could have possibly paid for!"
Thor: Ragnarok went on to earn almost $900 million at the international box office, so all's well that ends well.
