Minions Are Roaming The Streets Of China Selling Bananas

Or are they?

Photos of Minions appearing to sell bananas in the streets of China have gone viral on Weibo.

The juxtaposition of the two Minions and a three-wheeler — a form of transport often used by Chinese street vendors — melted the hearts of Chinese internet users.

Just look at the two of them, how chilled out yet focused they are on this golden early autumn day. 😘😘😘

Then things seemed to get a little serious. Two Chengguan, or city inspectors who tend to target street vendors and can sometimes get violent, approached the happy banana-selling duo.

"Put down your bananas" is probably something this officer would have said.

But we all know how important bananas are to Minions!

They refused to let their banana cart go.

There's definitely a tiny little voice here saying, "Pleeease, officer!"

Is your heart warmed? Well, stop it. Turns out the pictures were part of a campaign for the Chinese premiere of the Minions film on Sept. 13.

Lots of people thought the people inside the Minions costumes were probably poor migrant workers doing all they could to make a living. Almost everyone was fooled.

Lest anyone get upset at Baidu for appropriating social issues, the company later said that the Minions were sent out to buy bananas to surprise fans at the upcoming premiere.

Here they are, maybe shopping.
